Nice place to stay dry during a muti day rain storm last year. Pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Planning to stay for a longer time frame when I return with the kids.
I asked for a room with two queens for 3 adults and two babies. I was told they didn't have a room for that many people. I said, "Really, no room with two queens?" I was told "Everyone should have a bed. Five people can't sleep in two beds." I thought this was extremely odd, since one baby will sleep in a tiny portable bassinet. I tried explaining and the lady hung up on me.

I stayed at the Padre Motel when my car broke down in Escalante and I needed a last-minute place to stay a night. The room was a bit dated, but very clean and I had no complaints at all. The couple that run the place are a study in contrasts -- the husband is effusive and friendly while the wife is formal and quiet. But it's a roadside motel, so it's not like you interact with them other than to check in and out.
This was a great place to stay! Very clean everywhere. Also was able to speak to the older gentleman that built it and runs it. He was a wealth of information on the area. Definitely recommend this motel!
When I returned to Escalante the following year, I stayed at the much larger Prospector Inn, which was cheaper, just as clean, more convenient (closer to restaurants) -- but also much noisier due to more guests and thin walls. I've yet to stay at the Circle D, which gets decent reviews online and is the third motel in town (not including B&Bs).
